Sailing Season & Weather Conditions Along the Turkish Coast

The yachting and cruising season along the Turkish coast is exceptionally long, starting in April and continuing through November. This extended season offers a wide range of conditions suitable for different charter preferences and experience levels.

Seasonal Weather Overview

  • April – May:
    Weather conditions can be variable, with occasional rain and stronger winds. These months can offer enjoyable sailing conditions, particularly for sailing and bareboat charters.

  • June:
    Temperatures are well balanced and generally considered ideal.

  • July – August:
    The hottest months of the year. Rainfall is rare and weather conditions are more stable.

  • September – October:
    Sea and air temperatures remain very comfortable. Occasional rain and stronger winds may occur.

  • November:
    Marks the end of the season, with more changeable weather conditions.

Important Notice for Bookings

When making a reservation, it is important to note that April, May, the first half of June, as well as October and November, may present more variable weather conditions compared to peak summer months.

During these periods:

  • Short rain showers

  • Stronger or shifting winds

  • More dynamic sea conditions

may be experienced. While these conditions can be enjoyable for experienced sailors, they should be carefully considered, especially for bareboat charters. Flexibility in routing and daily planning is recommended.

Wind Conditions & Meltemi

Sailing conditions along the Turkish coast are generally excellent, with offshore north-westerly winds averaging 15–20 knots throughout the season. There are no tides or strong currents in the region.

During the summer months, the Meltemi wind is a well-known regional wind along the south-western Turkish coast. It typically strengthens from late morning to late afternoon, blowing predominantly from the north-west.

Following the coastline, the Meltemi:

  • Blows from the south into the Bay of Fethiye

  • Blows from the west into the Gulfs of Gökova and Symi

It is present from May to October, reaching its peak strength in July and August.

In addition to the Meltemi, other local winds may occasionally affect sailing conditions.
